The world will tell you to think about yourself, do what pleases yourself, make yourself happy; but Jesus says, deny yourself, and pick up the cross.  This is not easy, that is why it takes surrender.  It is not just a half way surrender, it is all in.  Jesus must be Lord of your life.

As Lord of your life, you will receive discipline from Him sometimes; Jesus is helping you get rid of the old and live the new life.  This is conviction.  When you are convicted, it is for you to feel guilty and want to repent of your sins.  This repentance brings peaceable fruit of righteousness.  This in turn brings growth and restoration.

Do not deny the Lord; receive His correction, and make your heart right with Him.
