Before the Cross Series Sermon 3 – Knowing Jesus

Preacher:
Passage: John 14:6-17
Service Type:

Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

How will you know the way, if you do not know Jesus?  How will you know truth if you do not know Jesus?  How will you know life if you do not know Jesus?  Jesus spoke this truth directly to the disciples; they had Jesus with them, and then suddenly, Jesus says, “I am going away.”

Imagine the confusion in the disciples’ hearts.  Jesus kept telling them the Father is in him, and he is in the Father; He reminded them that they would not be alone, that he was leaving his peace with them.  He told them the Spirit is with them, but their hearts were despairing because Jesus in his physical body was leaving them.

I know that it is easy to judge the disciples because we know the end of the story.  We know Jesus raised from the dead, but at the time, they were not sure what was going to happen.

Jesus told the disciples many promises; he told them that if they ask the Father anything in His Name, that He would do it.  How many times do you think they prayed to God and asked why did He let Jesus die?  They probably prayed that Jesus would come down from the cross, not realizing that Jesus must die for the sins of the whole world.  It is like the verse, weeping may last for the night, but joy comes in the morning.  Whatever you are facing, the despair of the night can seem overwhelming, but the joy of Jesus is coming.

Keep your faith strong in Him, keep reading His Word-His love letter directly to you-to show and prove to you that He is coming back for His people.  He IS coming for you.  Maybe you don’t know Jesus.  Ask Him into your heart; believe Him as your Savior.  He wants to make you new.
